A contemporary new build house in a beautiful river valley setting for a recently retired couple and their labradoodle
the brief
To transform a blank canvas into a welcoming and relaxed home with colour and personality for a couple far more used to living in period properties than a modern house.
Whilst they loved the fact that their new home was filled with light and had excellent environmental credentials, moving into a stark white developer’s box had left them feeling like fish out of water.
Our clients were also keen to move on from living with the random collection of high-street furniture, that had seen them through their first few decades of marriage.
Our response
We began with some minor adjustments to the layout to enhance the proportions of the interior spaces, create a more intimate master bedroom and add much-needed storage.
Improvements to the stairwell brought natural light into the hall, creating a welcoming entrance space far more appropriate to the stature and setting of the house.
DELIVERY
With everything designed, drawn and detailed before any work started on site, we worked with a talented team of specialist trades. The project was completed precisely within the eight-month programme established at the start of the project.
The scale and setting of the contemporary architecture have been honoured and celebrated, whilst simultaneously adding a range of colours, textures and finishes.
Changes to the layout and proportions of the internal space bring a much more human scale and improve the connection between the house, the garden and the surrounding valley.
Our clients now have a very personal home that reflects their sense of style and their new lifestyle.
